There really isn’t anything you will be able to get that will be an issue to the cats. The easiest products to use will be the baits…they will be extremely low toxic and you can get them where they are in a disc or "button" that is sealed and the cat can’t get to it. The gel baits can be placed in the cracks where the ants emerge which will be out of the way of the cat. Placing boric acid powder will probably be the most hazardous product you can use but you would be able to place it out of the way of the cats, but that might also be out of the way of the ants. Depending on what type of ant they are you should be able to treat the problem outside which would stop the ant invasion to begin with.
There is a product called Home Defense that you can buy either in a gallon container, or a spray bottle. Use the gallon container, and use it all around the outside of your house. This stuff does work. Also, use the spray bottle inside, like in a cabinet, especially if you can trace the ants to a particular cabinet, or woodwork in that area. I used to have the same problem, and I tried Home Defense. I don’t have the ant problem any more, and I do have cats. They are my babies.
I know this might seem like a strange way to get rid of the ants. My mom always uses instant grits. The ants take it back to the nest. Ants eat it and for some reason they can’t digest it and they die.
I have used the Raid ant motels that they can walk in and out of. My cats don’t bother them and they seem to do the trick pretty quickly when the ants have tried to get inside.
I crammed paprika or cayenne pepper along my baseboards one summer.. it worked since it burns them and they won’t come in! My Grandma told me that one! If the instant grits works though – that sounds even better.
Cheers!
Terro ant bait traps…best stuff I’ve ever used for sugar ants…they take it back to the nest and feed it to the queen which kills the colony…otherwise, they just bud out and make new nests if you kill the foragers.

diatomaceous earth is a natural pesticide that will not harm humans or animals. It is in a powder like form. It also works great against fleas and ticks
I recommend looking under your sink that is the most likely place ants are entering, up the pipes.
