how can i keep my dogs safe after fumigating my home?
i am fumigating/bombing/spraying my house to get rid of roaches and i’m afraid that the chemicals may be harmful to my dogs. They told me that i could let my dogs back in after 4 hours or so.. but i’m a little skeptical. the chemicals are going to be all over my furniture and carpet so i’m pretty sure my dogs will ingest them some way or another. i have a baby french bulldog and he always licks everything he can get his mouth on. i was thinking that i might leave the house for a week with my dogs.. but i don’t know if the chemicals would be gone by then..
also, i am a very clean person. i throw away my trash everyday, never leave food out, vacuum everyday. but somehow i keep getting roaches.
please help.

Ask the vet about the fumigating and the pets………to get rid of the roaches, go to the local drug store and buy some boric acid…….it can be found in the 1st aid department and comes in crystals form…..similar to salt. Take some screw on drink lids, like pepsi or coke, wash and dry them completely. Fill the lids with the boric acid crystals and set them in your cabinets, closets, where ever you have roaches……OUT of reach of your pets!!! This will kill the roaches, but they will also carry it back to the nest and kill them all. I know this works, I have tried it!!!
Ask your vet what the safest bug bomb is. A lot of vets will even sell the pet-safe versions or can at least recommend one. I had to do flea bombs and I purchased mine through my vet.
If you live in a duplex, apartment, or some kind of attached housing… it won’t matter how clean you are if your neighbors aren’t!
try to keep them in a room that didnt get sprayed if there is one, if not, take them out for fresh air as much as possible
Firstly roaches and dirt have nothing to do with each other. They are demons to get rid of. Don’t worry about that.
You are right to be concerned. Although the air might be ok after a day, there will be chemical on everything in the house. There are other methods of getting rid of roaches. Have you asked about the paste that gets put into corners and other places animals and small children cannot get to? Not sure of your situation so you’d have to ask the exterminator.
Please Don’t let your dog in until the next day. Dogs have more senors then humans. They are prone to get sick faster.
after you bomb your house, keep the dogs away for at least 24 hours, that’s what i did when i lived in GA. i also washed everything i could in hot water, bleach the floors if you can etc…… i do how you feel though. when i lived in GA i had a heck of a time getting rid of them. maybe have terminax come out to your house, if that doesn’t work. good luck!
if u dont feel confortable leaving ur dog at ur house for a few days then listen to ur gut and dont take ur dog into the house until the smell leaves. u could even ask a friend or family memeber if they would watch ur dog if they can until ur house smells "normal"
also u dont have to get ur house sprayed down for roaches to leave. there are other methods that r less stinking and environment friendly. i dont know any good ones u could use but i am sure if u google it u will find something.
maybe roaches keep appearing b\c they might be a roach colony somewhere in ur house. look around inside and out and c if u can find it.
I appreciate your concern and we all need to be more careful when using "poisons" where pets will be. I highly suggest you inquire of your vet and make sure you have the actual product in hand to know what the ingredients are. Some can be much more toxic to pets than companies will admit. Try doing a search on the main ingredients and see what you find. You may be shocked.
Have you ever "bombed " under the house? Most people don;t think to place bombs in the crawl space under house where roaches might be breeding. You may have a "nasty" neighbor like I do with garbage all out back of their house. Yuck.
I do not think you would need to vacate a week but the vet might have some insight for you. I have way too many cats and dogs to even consider using anything but a spray that I can spray where pets aren’t affected and I still air out for hours. I cannot tolerate the fumes myself.
