Home maintenance Archives

In early 2007 I will be launching a website in the US devoted to products and services related to home auto and marine industries. The primary area of interest will be focused on the protection of property as well as how to prevent damage to ones property. I am looking for professionals who would be willing to contribute solutions for this website and in return would receive credit on the website for their contribution. This website will be nationally launched and will have a projected 5,000 visits a day. If you have a background in Construction, Plumbing, Contracting, Building, Mechanics, Boat or Auto Maintenance, or just an enthusiast in any of these areas or related areas then please contact me to hear more details.
To clear up an misconceptions, this would be writing a short article every now and then on a subject that interests you, by no means would this be very time consuming!
Hi Luke_J,
I have tried to email you a few times but I keep receiving a message that says your email has not been confirmed. Please contact me so I can pass on more information to you!

Our company employees work from home, is there a tax exemption on any maintenance allowance for home office ? we are into software and we depend on phone, net etc.

roofing,siding,electrical,plumbing, etc

I’m a soon to be first time home owner with an in ground pool. I’m no slouch, I can soak up information and dedicate a good amount of time to this…if it’s worth it. So is this something an average person can do? Or is this best left to a pro?

I recently saw an infomercial for home tips and one of the books included was a home maintenance book the had a calender of this to do for your home every month. Like clean the gutters in September, reseal your grout in May, etc….Has anyone heard of this book and know the correct title?

And where can we find this information?

Just curious if there are any other admitted numbskulls like me. For myself, I stepped right through the drywall in the ceiling of my daughters closet, forgetting that I might want to walk on the studs in the attic instead. It took me a week to get out all the slivers from the foam fiberglass insulation…

My mom needs to change her homeowners insurance, but they won’t take her until she gets the roof done. Totally done. Financially im-freaking-possible for her. The agent that has her car (and my home and cars) suggested this as a possibility, but who would I ask? She (the agent) seems to think that it is a fairly common thing, but couldn’t remember the organization.

Any help? Thanks in advance . . .

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I am a homeowner and would like to improve my carpentry/construction skills. I am a teacher and have the summers off, which I would like to spend improving my house. This isn’t just to save money; I really want to learn how to do it.

I once converted a garage into a sculpture studio, so I have some skills/successes (can build a wall, install new windows and doors, wiring, put in a floor) and some failures (leaking skylights). I’ve also put in fences, built bookshelves and done some plumbing. Plus sculpture!

I know I could take classes at a tech school, but I’m looking for other hands-on ideas where I could learn from someone. Books are great but I need to SEE it and be able to ask questions. Though I have the summers off, they are short and I have young kids. I’d like to work a bit for someone for free in exchange for the teaching – is that feasible? I’m not incompetant, but I am female :)

I have never seen a job posted in that sector online, do you know a place where i can look for? I live in Saginaw, Michigan.

Okay, I’m buying a house in one of the last economically healthy parts of North America. What important bits of maintenance (cleaning the furnace, for example) should I undertake every year, every two or three years and every 10 years, for example?

These days more and more women need to be able to handle the care of a home on their own, because it is so expensive to hire someone for every little thing and because there is often no one else to do it. If there is a man around, he may not know how to do these things or even be interested in learning.
So, do fathers who know how to do these things now teach their daughters?

On average, how much would be spent on home maintenace, for example broken boilers, electrical problems, plumbing problems etc, in a single household in one year in Britain?

What book would you recommend for a layman, not a professional? Something that covers common repairs, maintenance, improvements – as a step by step guide. I’ve gone to the bookstore and seen many of these, but I’m looking for real experiences from people who have read and used these as to which is the best one.

i’m trying to find a good slogan for my small business? anyone have any ideas for a home maintenance business

Would you pay for a service, similar to a house cleaning service, that would have a handyman come out to your home on a monthly basis to take care of any minor home repairs and keep up regular maintenance tasks (like cleaning gutters, changing filters, etc.)? This service could be offered when you bought your home to keep it in good shape.

How much would you expect to pay for such a service?

I am planning on starting a handyman, home maintenance, home repair business. I need help thinking of a catchy name that would encompass the multitude of tasks I would do. I will do everything from hanging pictures, exterior holiday decorating to finishing a basement and remodeling a kitchen.

my husband and i recently purchased a new home (first house), but now he’s gone for military reasons. i’m looking for a good guide/checklist of what maintenance to do when and maybe some how-to’s. most of the things i’ve found are for older homes and don’t explain things very well.
thanks in advance!
