Yes, on Sep 19, 2008 Freddie Mac (FRE) closed at $0.55 and Fannie Mae (FNM) closed at $0.69, see http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=fre and http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=FNM
Yes, you can and may buy FRE and FNM. the question is, should you…..hmmmm. well i considered allocating a small portion of my portfolio to Freddie when it was trading around 4.5 points. I thought maybe i could make a bet for a sharp rise then sell it off pronto. good thing i didnt, the stock sank to pennies. but today it went up 60% you ask. hey, if you want to try it, go for it! maybe you double triple or even better. just think "you buy 1000 shares of freddie at .55 for $550.00 on monday morn. then freddie jumps to 4.35 per share! then you have $4,350.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!! isnt that what you are thinking? i am, but what if they sink to .13 or .08 per share? then you lose out. play smart so you can play long. if you feel like gambling though, through a few hundred freddies way and see what happens.
They are both sill trading, but you would have much more fun at the casino. I promise.
Why when you already own them if you’re paying taxes.
