I am in the market for a house. Something not too expensive and preferably rent to own.
I recently came across a house that really is a true 100% fixer upper.
Needs new windows, carpet, plumbing work, paint job, and possibly roofing.
Now my question, is buying a home such as this one (with the potential to be something amazing) really worth the extra out of pocket expense just to make the house livable and then the extra money to make it pretty?
Bought home in September 2008, saw the possibility of the 00 tax credit (to be repaid over 15yrs correct?) but did not file for it. Can i still apply for it even if i have already filed 2008 taxes?
I recently saw an infomercial for home tips and one of the books included was a home maintenance book the had a calender of this to do for your home every month. Like clean the gutters in September, reseal your grout in May, etc….Has anyone heard of this book and know the correct title?
Is there a penalty for paying back the ,500 first time home buyers’ tax credit early? We don’t qualify for the one you don’t have to pay back.
I’d like to buy my first house but trying to save for the downpayment is really difficult. Is there a list of programs out there for first time home buyers?
A home I am looking to buy is a foreclosure owned by Freddie Mac. With the government takeover, am I likely to get a good deal on this?
My wife and I live in a rented apartment in CA and own a home in AZ that we have rented out. Last year our losses on the AZ property (Interest + prop. taxes + repairs + depreciation – rentalincome) was 14K (reported in schedule E and form 6198). Now since our total W2 wages in CA are >150K we can’t deduct the 14K from our adjusted gross income. Question is can this no. be carried forward each year (as losses) and later when we sell the rental investment property can the sum of all these yearly losses be subtracted from the profit we make by selling the rental property?
Also, someone suggested that the smarter thing to do would be to form an LLC and start getting a tax-break from the losses we are making every year. Is that true?
There are white trailing marks on the leaves of my tomato plants and egg plant leaves. Also the leaves on my green peppers at the top are curled up and have stopped growing.
Exactly how does the iron triange work? and what does it have to do with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac?
My hubby and I have bad credit… we are getting it fixed but will take some time… landlord is selling house and we have 3 months to get out and dont wnat to rent again… we have 2 small kids and would like them to have a place to call theres… any idea or help would be nice… Thanks
I’m seriously wondering because I have this distant sis-in-law that really gets into it and I have no idea why. Does she get money out of it? Or how does the business work for landlord?
And where can we find this information?
I have done some research but cant find any loans or grants that seem legit? Whats the best way to get a first time home buyers loan or grant so that i dont have to pay a down payment.
I have about 2000 shares of Freddie Mac which cost me about ,200 now it is worth less than ,200. Do I just let it ride and wait for it to rebound to about .00 a share or do I load up on it to decrease the per share cost and hope to get out sooner?
My 2008 federal return was offset to pay off student loans..i then purchased a home and filed a 1040X ammended return to obtain the first time home buyers tax credit. Can this be offset as well?
It takes me 30 mins to arrived at home from work. I carry my cell phone all the time with me & I also use my light for I could see better in the dark. I go about 19 mph in my bicycle. I try to avoid dark areas or shortcuts. And yes I am street smart too. Any advice? Please no stupid answers. Thanks guys.
I’ve bought a home three years ago. I know want to start buying rental properties. Is the process the same as far as income, credit, and down payment or is it different due to it being a investment property? How should I go about starting?
How would you diversify your investments using the options below if you planned to retire in 25 years? I’d consider myself somewhat of a risk taker, but not overly. What makes you qualified? I’ll pick best answer.

I live with my fiance who owns a condo, and before we get married we want to buy a house together. My fiance has excellent credit, and i have good credit. Can i have her co-sign on a mortage (so that we can get a better interest rate) and still be able to recieve the 2009 First Time home owner tax credit? She does own her condo!
Just curious if there are any other admitted numbskulls like me. For myself, I stepped right through the drywall in the ceiling of my daughters closet, forgetting that I might want to walk on the studs in the attic instead. It took me a week to get out all the slivers from the foam fiberglass insulation…
How long has it taken people to get first time home buyers tax credit when you file an amendment?
I just don’t understand. I am trying to get more into politics, and Fanny May and Freddie Mac are constantly brought up. So, what are they?
My grandmother lives in a Co-op in New York and I help her pay the maintenance, I used to live with her for several years until 2 years ago. Both of our names are on the co-op contract as share holder as well as on the Mortgage Interest Statement, Form 1098. I never took a mortgage or actually purchased any home. My question is, am I qualified for the 8000$ first time home buyer tax credit in case I buy an apartment in 2009?
My fiance and I went to go look at a house yesterday and a note on the door said that it was Fannie Mae approved. What does this mean? We weren’t able to go inside or speak with the realtor yet, but just thought I’d try to figure it out before we were to go any further.
